In advance of the forthcoming election in 2023, President Muhammadu Buhari has publicly said that he doesn't want any justifications from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The president claims that resources were given to INEC in a timely manner so as to avoid any reasons that would interfere with the smooth conduct of the poll the following year.
In an interactive session titled "A Conversation with President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria" on Friday in Washington, DC, a question on INEC's readiness for the 2023 elections was addressed by President Buhari.
The United States Institute of Peace, the International Republican Institute, the National Endowment for Democracy, and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems co-hosted the event, according to a statement released on Saturday by Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity.
The president stated in the statement titled "USIP" that INEC has no justifications based on a lack of funding.
The President of Nigeria said that “I made sure they were given all the resources they asked for because I don’t want any excuses that they were denied funds by the government.”
In the remark, he also mentioned how the agricultural revolution in Nigeria produced over 13 million employment in just seven years.
