According to Major General Christopher Musa, who is the Theater Commander for Operation Hadin Kai, there have been roughly 83,000 Boko Haram militants who have surrendered with their families.
The Commander made this known on Thursday when paying Mai Mala Buni, the governor of Yobe state, a courtesy call at the Government House in Damaturu.
Out of the total, 41,000, according to him, are kids who would have joined Boko Haram.
“The terrorists were trying to develop a new set of terrorists, their own children and that would have been very dangerous, because normally for children when they grow up and whatever they see is what they imitate.
“So, if they grow and think killing, they become very dangerous”, he said.
Maj. Gen. Musa praised Gov. Buni for providing assistance to the state's military in the struggle against insurgency.
“We want to assure you that we are here as partners in progress. Whatever it takes for us to have peace, we are determined to achieve that,” he assured.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Faruq Yahaya, has reportedly been highly supportive, which makes the Theater Commander's job much simpler.
The army's tenacity in combating the Boko Haram insurgency was praised by Governor Mai Mala Buni.
He guaranteed the state security agencies the backing of his government.
A "Warrior" award was handed to Governor Buni.
