Journalist allegedly detained by Taraba Governor for exposing corruption

 Ayodele Samuel Oloye, a journalist located in Taraba, has been unfairly detained and arrested, according to allegations made against Governor Darius Ishaku.

People Gazette claims that Mr. Oloye, the editor-in-chief of the Taraba Truth and Facts daily, is facing legal action because of a story he wrote that revealed Governor Ishaku's intention to sell the Taraba liaison office.

Mr. Oloye had earlier been made aware of the governor's intention to have him arrested, which prompted him to make a statement to his fellow journalists on September 30.

"The Taraba State Government is angry with some of our reports," he said, referring to one in which he stated that Governor Darius Ishaku had "plans to sell the Taraba liaison office."

He was detained for several hours without access to his family or attorneys after being arrested hours after providing the statement and secretly arraigned before the State High Court in Taraba.

Human rights activist Bako Benjamin denounced Mr. Oloye's detention and the governor's alleged plans to further build a legal framework for press suppression and harassment of journalists in a statement following his arrest.
