Kunini resigns, and a new Speaker is elected for the Taraba Assembly.

Kunini resigns, and a new Speaker is elected for the Taraba Assembly.

Wednesday saw the resignation of Joseph Albasu Kunini, speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly.

John Kizito Bonzina, a representative of the Zing constituency, was swiftly chosen by the house to serve as the next Speaker.

2019 saw the election of Kunini, who ran on the PDP platform.

Everyone was surprised when he read his letter of resignation on the House floor because there had been no altercation amongst House members.

“My resignation is on personal ground. I wish to thank honourable members for their support and cooperation while I served as the speaker of this honourable House,” he said.

In his first speech as the new speaker, Bonzina refuted the claim that the members launched a palace coup in order to unseat the speaker.

He pledged to work nonstop to build on the accomplishments of the previous speaker while enlisting the help of his colleagues.
