The attack on Abu Giza, a senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Friday has been denounced by Hon. Yakubu Gowon, the chairman of the Nasarawa State Inter-party Advisory Council, Cletus Ogah Doma.
According to accounts from within Nigeria, Giza was harassed, stripped nude, and humiliated by youngsters in Lafia, the capital of the Nasarawa state.
At the Emir's Palace in Lafia, youths who were supposedly APC members flocked to the party's leader.
The IPAC Chairman pleaded with young people not to side with politicians and to maintain their objectivity.
Ogah maintained that Nigerians must resist assaults on defenseless persons, calling the molestation of the APC chairman a disgusting and unwholesome crime.
He encouraged the opposition parties and the government's Any Progressives Congress (APC) to denounce all forms of violence and thuggery that would interfere with the peaceful conduct of the 2018 general elections.
He stated: "The yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians to have a credible, peaceful conduct of elections in 2023, must not be allowed in the hands of the politicians causing troubles in the country.
"It is the collective responsibility of all actors and best of all the political parties to ensure that campaigns are conducted with decorum and in accordance with the rules of the game."
