Bola Tinubu's official Facebook account was hacked, according to James Faleke, the Secretary of the Presidential Campaign Council of the Governing All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate.
Faleke bemoaned the fact that these dishonest individuals used his Facebook account to extort gullible Nigerians.
In a statement, he denounced the crime's perpetrators and issued a "Disclaimer."
Faleke named the hacker as Lukman Johnny, an employee of the Abuja-based Federal Ministry of Agriculture.
Unaware Nigerians are being urged by hackers to pay N18, 000 in order to gain access to an empowerment fund provided by the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Campaign Organization.
Unaware Nigerians were prompted to deposit N18,500 into a special account that the hackers had established.
The head of the House of Representatives' Finance Committee, however, pleaded on Nigerians to ignore the warning.
The declaration reads: “I have been inundated with reports from several Nigerians about the activities of some unscrupulous elements who hacked my official Facebook account, to extort unsuspecting Nigerians.
“One of the individuals behind this fraud is also sending messages to unsuspecting victims using the name of a certain Lukman Johnny with phone number 08147136835, and who is said to be a staff of the federal ministry of agriculture in Abuja.”
The notification says: “Johnny on 08147136835 tell him i directed you, he is the director in charge of the empowerment fund in federal ministry of agriculture here in Abuja, he will guide you on what to do’.”
Faleke denied being aware of Tinubu's distribution of such cash for empowerment.
The congressman advised Nigerians to monitor the actions of the hackers and inform security personnel.
“I wish to put on record that I am not aware of any empowerment fund being allocated or distributed to any individual or group of persons by Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, or by myself,” he added
