Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, said on Sunday that he had five meetings with Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike in Abuja, Port Harcourt, and London.
Atiku stated during The People's Townhall meeting that the goal of the gathering was to resolve the PDP conflict.
But he said that there was no way to move the meeting forward.
As said by Atiku: “I have met Wike two times in Port Harcourt, two times in Abuja, one time in London, personally. It is not on my part; it is on the other side; I am waiting for him.”
After losing in the PDP's presidential primary, Wike is upset with the party's leaders.
The governor was originally upset that Atiku chose Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running partner instead of him.
Iyorchia Ayu's resignation as the party's national chairman was also demanded by Wike and the G-5 integrity group.
They stated that the national chairman and flagbearer of the party should not come from the North.
The national chairmanship should be assigned to the South, according to Wike and his coalition's demands.
Why is Wike angry with Atiku
On Thursday, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike explained the cause of his conflict with Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, and Iyorchia Ayu, the Party's national chairman.
During the launching of a project in the state, the former candidate for president said that Atiku had made the resignation of Ayu a pledge after winning the party's primary.
He said, however, that the former vice president broke his word and that this is what caused the present crisis to shake the party.
Iyorchia Ayu must resign as the party's chairman, according to Wike. “This fight, we will fight it to the end”.
The governor of Rivers emphasized that the matter at hand is one of justice and fairness and that the North should not continue to control the party chairmanship after producing the party's presidential candidate.
The governor stated that his demand for Ayu's dismissal will continue even after Walid Jibril's resignation as head of the Board of Trustees.
Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has informed Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the PDP's presidential candidate, that Atiku can run unopposed in the upcoming general elections.
Following the conclusion of the party's presidential primary, there has been a crisis inside the main opposition party.
With a total of 371 votes, Atiku defeated Wike, his closest rival, to become the PDP's presidential candidate for the general election of 2023. Wike received 237 votes.
According to the breakdown of the exercise's results, Atiku Abubakar received 371 points, Nyesom Wike 237, Bukola Saraki 70, Udom Emmanuel 38, and Balla Mohammed 20.
Olivia Tariela, Sam Ohabunwa, and Pius Anyim each scored one goal. Twelve votes were invalid.
Wike and his group, which includes some governors from the South, believe they were denied the presidential ticket and just withdrew from Atiku's campaign.
Following their decision to fire the campaign staff, some party members assert that Wike may even decide to quit the organization if he so chooses, saying Atiku can win without the Rivers Governor.
And on Friday, Wike remarked in a conversation with media in Port Harcourt, “Yes, I agree. Atiku can do without me. They can do without me in the other states but not Rivers State.”
