The Labour Party's support of Peter Obi on New Year's Day to run for president in 2023 seems to have sparked additional political commotion in Nigeria, based on how the Presidency has responded to the most recent incident.
Garba Shehu, the President's Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, responded to Obasanjo's criticisms by stating that given his track record, the former president will unavoidably stop at nothing to criticize Buhari personally.
The presidential spokesperson claims that Obasanjo, who is infamous for being envious, criticizes everyone who surpasses him in the country's growth process.
According to a report in DAILY POST, Obasanjo used his new year's message to urge Nigerians, especially youths, to support Obi's candidacy. This development sparked a range of responses from the majority of political contenders, including Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar, the candidates for the APC and PDP, respectively.
According to Shehu, Chief Obasanjo is far behind President Buhari in every area of national progress, which is seen as a cardinal offense by Obasanjo, who believes he is the only person capable of leading Nigeria and that there will never be anybody greater than him.
Shehu further reminded commentators that after three decades of broken promises, President Buhari just finished the Second Niger Bridge, a structure of the highest caliber. It is presently waiting to be put into service.
He said that during his first time as president, Obasanjo started work on the bridge but never finished it.
Shehu also made fun of the former president, pointing out that when Obasanjo ran for re-election for a second term, he went back to the construction site to turn the sod for the bridge a second time.
“When the Obi of Onitsha, boldly reminded him that he had done this in the past, Obasanjo told the foremost Southeast traditional ruler that he was a liar, in the full presence of the Chiefs and Oracles in his palace,” said the president's spokesperson.
He emphasized that the present president, Buhari, lost their votes but found the fortitude to build the bridge because he thought it was the right thing to do. He accused Obasanjo of lying to the Southeast to win their votes.

Shehu, who was supporting his principle, said that Buhari had recently been recognized for striving to follow the guidelines set down by the Federal Republic of Nigeria's Constitution, which calls for leaders to serve one or a maximum of two terms before stepping down.
He said that Buhari has been emphasizing his intention to oversee an election that is more successful than the one that elected him and to step down when the time comes.
Because tenure elongation was unsuccessful, Obasanjo's imaginary imagination must be convincing him that he is the target of the attack.
“Obasanjo is not on President Buhari’s radar because experience has shown, especially lately in West Africa where there have been at least three successful coups and many other failed attempts, that third term or tenure elongation is a recipe for political instability,” the presidency noted.
