Hon David Jimkuta has been declared by INEC as the winner of the Saturday senatorial election and Senator-elect in Taraba South. Before the election both Danji SS and Jimkuta campaigned seriously, telling their supporters that they are the candidate of APC. Now many are confused especially from Danji's camp and are asking questions why it wasn't Hon Danji SS that was declared. This is why I will like briefly explain so that we don't keep people in the dark.
It is on record that before the election, David Jimkuta was given the APC Senatorial ticket by the order in of the appeal Court which declared him as the authentic APC candidate and he participated in the general election. INEC obeyed the court order and uploaded his name on its website's amendment List 4 and clearly stated that the amendment list is superior to the general list of candidates earlier uploaded. This decision of Appeal Court and INEC is being challenged at the Supreme Court by Hon Danji SS and the Court has fixed 17th March for its ruling.
However the victory of Jimkuta and the defeat of Governor Ishaku in the last election is for all of us in APC family because Hon Danji SS also played a major role in the campaign for the Senate of which all can testify. But the congratulations and the certificate of Return must go to the flagbearer of the party who participated in the election which is Hon David Jimkuta. And that is what INEC has done.
Let Jimkuta's victory unite APC family in Taraba South because we all worked for it irrespective of our political camps.
Let me also explain that if Hon Danji SS wins at the Supreme Court, it may also require a new election before he can be declared as the Senator-elect because the new electoral law is clear about inheriting votes tied to a candidate who participated in an election but was later removed as a Candidate by the Court. This position of the law in the electoral Act is still subject to the interpretation by the Supreme Court on March 17. This is why Hon Danji's camp is still hopeful.
However, for now, let Jimkuta and APC's victory in Taraba South unite us to work together for our collective victory at the state level come March 11 to capture Government and the House of Assembly. Let's close rank because with APC in charge of Taraba State, all I can see are better days ahead!!
